How do I bulk upload/paste tasks into a checklist/task area e.g. copy from Excel?

Here we will confirm the different ways that you can bulk import tasks into a checklist/task area within an element.

You are able to add multiple tasks to a checklist/task area by either a copy/paste action or by uploading them in a csv file (as exported from Excel, Google Sheets etc.).

If you are uploading a csv of your tasks you can find an example csv template to use here. Please note that you can only paste/import a maximum of 100 tasks at one time. To upload more simply upload 100 at a time.

1) Upload a csv file of tasks

  1. Open the item with the tasks area or add a new one as required
  2. Toggle on edit mode
  3. Click import tasks in the checklist/tasks area
  4. Upload your csv file by dragging and dropping it as indicated or click the upload button to select your csv file. You can find an example csv template to use here.
  5. Your new tasks will then be added as individual tasks with end dates

To see how the importing via csv works, you can watch the video from our 'How do I add a new task to our checklist/task area' article.

Please note: you can exclude the end dates from the csv file to add tasks without end dates and dates are excluded if you are editing an item template.

2) Quick Paste Multiple Tasks

  1. Open the item with the tasks area or add a new one as required
  2. Toggle on edit mode
  3. Click add tasks in the checklist/tasks area
  4. Copy your tasks, there should be one per line e.g. one per row (in one column) in Excel and paste them into the top blank new task input where it says "Type here or paste tasks" and then select the tick option.
  5. Your new tasks will then be added as individual tasks

3) Paste multiple tasks with end dates

  1. Open the item with the tasks area or add a new one as required
  2. Toggle on edit mode
  3. Click import tasks in the checklist/tasks area
  4. Copy your tasks, there should be one per line with a comma separating the task name from the end date e.g. task 1, 2024-05-19 etc. and paste them into the text area provided. You can then select the tick option.
  5. Your new tasks will then be added as individual tasks with end dates

Note: you can exclude the end dates and just paste in the tasks one per line to add tasks without end dates. End dates are excluded if you are editing an element template.

You can watch a video covering pasting multiple tasks with or without end dates here:

Please Note: Tasks Imported with dates will be reflected in the Gantt Chart with Constraint Date, End Date & Start Date all equal to the imported date, the Constraint Type set to 'Must Finish On', and the Duration set to '0 Days'. See here:
