How do I clone a grid?

Cloning a grid allows you to work on a copy grid with the same framework and/or elements from the original grid.

Configurable access control will determine who has the access permission (you need a minimum access level of edit) to clone a grid in the main grid library; see What is configurable access control?

You can clone a grid from within the grid library, by clicking clone behind the more action button on the grid thumbnail - or - within a selected grid by clicking the clone behind the more action button on the grid action bar.

You can then select to clone the following:

  1. Grid structure – this only clones the grid structure i.e. it’s stages (columns) and themes (rows).
  2. Grid with current filter – this clones everything in the grid, except any elements excluded by the filter applied at the point of cloning the grid (see above). Note this option is only available when cloning from within a grid.
  3. Grid with everything – this clones everything in the grid, all content.

The cloned (copied) grid is to be found in the same folder as the grid you have cloned from.

Please Note:

  • If the grid you are cloning has a large amount of data contained within it, the cloning process will start and continue in the background. You will be notified via email when the cloning process has been completed.
  • Gantt durations and dependencies (successors and predecessors) set in the original grid will also be migrated to the new cloned grids. Dates, baselines and assignees are not. Note: If clone grid with current filter has been selected, dependencies will be kept where possible, but removed where dependent elements are excluded from the clone.
  • When you clone a grid that has cross grid dependencies, those dependencies will be removed when you clone the grid.
  • When you clone a folder that has cross grid dependencies in the Gantt, then the dependencies between the grids in the folder being cloned will be kept and dependencies to grids outside of the folder being cloned, will be removed. You can learn more about cloning folders here.

For grids cloned from the Method Grid store, the cloned (copied) grid is to be found in your private folder. See How to download a grid from the Method Grid store?
